Mid-Century Glam Design Study
Personal Expression
project
project Type: home renovation
location: seminole heights, tampa, fl
project scope: conceptual interior design
vendors: arhaus, jonathan adler
collaborators: local fireplace fabricator
Inspired by the intersection of fashion, art, and interior design, this conceptual residence explores what happens when personal expression becomes the foundation of a home. Drawing from mid-century modern influences, vintage furnishings, and the bold creativity of editorial fashion, the design balances graphic patterns, expressive color, and unexpected material combinations. The result is a layered, sophisticated interior that celebrates individuality, where every detail contributes to a home that feels collected, distinctive, and unapologetically personal.

living room

detail
Inspired by the homeowner’s work as a portrait photographer, original photographs are framed and layered alongside portraits of recognizable cultural icons to create a deeply personal gallery wall. The collected composition transforms her own creative work into part of the interior, blurring the line between art, memory, and self-expression.

The muse
We imagined this home for a portrait photographer whose creative world is shaped by fashion, art, and editorial imagery. Her personal style is expressive and unapologetic, with a love of bold color, graphic pattern, vintage finds, and statement jewelry. Rather than separating fashion from interiors, we looked to her imagined wardrobe and creative work as inspiration, translating that same sense of individuality into a home designed to feel unmistakably her own.

work & retreat

detail
Tucked into the bedroom, the desk area provides a dedicated place to work and create without sacrificing the room’s sense of retreat. Glossy walnut and acrylic bring contrast against the matte walls, while sculptural lighting, art, and collected objects allow the workspace to feel like a natural extension of the bedroom rather than a traditional home office.

Where Fashion Meets
interiors
Fashion and interiors share a common language of color, proportion, pattern, texture, and the confidence to combine the unexpected. For this concept, we approached the home much like a thoughtfully layered wardrobe, pairing vintage influences with contemporary pieces, graphic patterns with rich materials, and bold moments with quieter ones. The result feels expressive and collected, with a point of view that is distinctly personal.
bedroom

detail
Deep, saturated walls envelop the bedroom, creating an intimate retreat from the outside world. When the curtains are drawn, the room takes on an even more cocooning quality, a quiet, restorative space designed for slowing down, unwinding, and recharging.

the direction
Rather than designing within the boundaries of a single style, this concept embraces the freedom to mix influences, eras, and ideas. Mid-century forms mingle with contemporary pieces, vintage references are paired with unexpected materials, and bold color and graphic pattern bring an editorial edge. Much like personal style, the most interesting interiors evolve from what you’re drawn to, not a set of rules, resulting in a home that feels collected, expressive, and entirely individual.

The Beauty of
contrast
Contrast gives this concept its energy. Warm woods and tactile velvets meet acrylic, polished metals, and reflective surfaces, while sculptural forms are balanced by bold graphic patterns. Vintage influences sit comfortably alongside contemporary pieces, creating a layered tension between old and new, soft and structured, organic and refined. It’s this unexpected mix that gives the home its distinctive character.

kitchen

detail
Designed with entertaining in mind, the kitchen balances function with a clean, architectural aesthetic. Full-height cabinetry conceals everyday necessities, keeping counters visually quiet and allowing the materials and symmetry of the space to take center stage. The result is a kitchen that feels polished and uncluttered while remaining ready for everything from casual gatherings to an evening with friends.

in conclusion
The most memorable homes aren’t defined by a single design style, they’re defined by the people who live in them. This concept celebrates the freedom to mix eras, materials, color, art, and personal influences in unexpected ways. By looking beyond trends and traditional design rules, we imagined a home that feels layered, expressive, and entirely individual. Because ultimately, the most beautiful interiors don’t simply reflect good design, they reflect you.
